For the second time this season, Millbrook’s girls soccer defeated Leesville Road on Thursday night, but this time it was for a championship.
The Wildcats scored the first two goals of the game and weathered a late push by Leesville Road to claim a 2-1 win at home in the WCPSS Cup championship match.
Gabrielle Sadosky wasted little time getting Millbrook on the board. She tapped the ball into the net off a pass from Ellie Wilson in the 4th minute to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
That one-goal advantage stuck through halftime for Millbrook, which dominated possession for much of the game.
In the second half, Abby Champlin scored what would be the game-winning goal for the Wildcats. In the 69th minute, Champlin finished a pass from Allaire Klein to put Millbrook up 2-0.
In the 71st minute, Leesville Road took advantage of a corner kick. Morgan Peters delivered the ball to Avery Uhron who headed it into the goal. That drew the Pride within 2-1, and Leesville Road had other opportunities in the final minutes, but could not convert.
With the win, Millbrook is not 14-0-1 on the season and holds a perfect 10-0 record in the CAP 8A Conference.
Leesville Road falls to 11-6 overall and 5-5 in conference play.
Millbrook also won the first meeting at Leesville Road in March, claiming a 2-1 win in overtime.
