The groups have been determined for the 2026 Wake County Cup boys soccer tournament.
During a live show on WakeCountyAthleticZon.com and the NAS Athletic Zone YouTube page, a live draw was held with Green Level athletic director Colin Fegeley and Apex Friendship athletic director Matt Clifton.
A group was drawn at random, then a team was drawn to join that group.
Group A consists of: Apex Friendship, Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, and Willow Spring.
Group B includes: Green Hope, Green Level, Heritage, and Wakefield.
Because four teams from the Quad City Seven Conference qualified for the Wake County Cup this season, only two teams from the conference were permitted to join a single group.
The Wake County Cup is a regular season tournament that features eight boys soccer teams from public schools in Wake County — both varsity and junior varsity teams from the schools will participate.
Each team in a group plays every other team in that group during the regular season. If two conference opponents are in the same group, the first meeting between the two will count for Wake County Cup scoring purposes.
In group play, if a game is tied at the end of regulation, the game ends in a tie.
Teams earn points based on the result of each game: 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss.
After play is complete, teams are ranked by their total points, and ties are broken by goal differential, followed by total goals scored.
The top team from each group, both JV and varsity, will play in the Wake County Cup Championship on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at Apex Friendship High School. The JV game is at 5:00, with the varsity game scheduled for 7:00.
In the championship game only, if regulation ends with both teams tied, NCHSAA playoff overtime rules will be used. Those rules call for two 10-minute overtime periods, followed by two 5-minute golden goal periods, and then penalty kicks if the teams remain tied.
