State Championship Fall Recap 2021

PANTHER CREEK, ROLESVILLE & LEESVILLE REP WCPS IN 4A FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS

WCPS made a strong showing in the 4A Football State Championships with three teams advancing to the quarterfinals or better:

The Rolesville Rams stormed through four rounds scoring a whopping 225 points on opponents before meeting eventual champion, Cardinal Gibbons in the Regional Round.

The Leesville Rd Pride met Rolesville Rams in the quarterfinals with the Rams prevailing 47-24.

Panther Creek advanced to the quarterfinals where they fell to eventual 4A State Champions, Cardinal Gibbons 42-14.  The Catamounts finished their 2021 Fall season with a 10-4 record.

APEX & ENLOE BOTH MAKE IT TO 4A MENS SOCCER 3RD ROUND PLAYOFFS

The Apex Cougars outscored opponents 9-2 in the first three rounds of the 4A Men’s Soccer State Playoffs before falling to eventual State Champion, New Hanover 1-0 in the 4th round.

Enloe Eagles took  their school on the longest post season run in the men’s soccer program history.  Enloe held opponents scoreless through three rounds of the playoffs, ending with a thrilling PK shootout victory over Chapel Hill in the 3rd round before falling to Cardinal Gibbons in the quarterfinals.

GREEN LEVEL WINS 1ST EVER STATE VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP; MILLBROOK PLAYS IN 3RD ROUND

The Green Level Gators claim the school’s first state championship in any athletic event. The team finished the season 27-1, winning the Southwest Wake 4A Conference title.

Lizzie Boggess from Green Level was chosen as Sportsmanship Award winner and Ellie Sampson earned MVP honors in the State Championship match after slamming down 12 kills, adding a block and 15 digs.  Click here to read the NCHSAA highlights>>

 

The Holly Springs Golden Hawks claimed victory over Apex Friendship in the 3rd round to advance to the quarterfinals.  There they fell to DH Conley in three sets.

MILLBROOK DOUBLES TEAM WINS TITLE; 3 WCPS TEAMS FINISH STRONG IN 4A WOMENS TENNIS PLAYOFFS

WCPS recorded a lot of action in women’s tennis  state championships:

Jill Gruber & Addison Pope from Millbrook are the NCHSAA 4A Individual Doubles Runners-up.

Olivia Corcoran from Green Hope is the NCHSAA 4A Individual Singles Runner-up.

In the 4A Dual Team Women’s Tennis State Championships, Leesville Road(17-1) & Apex Friendship (15-1) went deep into the playoffs, each falling to eventual championship contender, East Chapel Hill.

In Women’s 4A Cross Country, Apex’s Sara Mitchell took down the 4A Women’s Course record with a time of 17:26.96.

PANTHER CREEK, ROLESVILLE & LEESVILLE REP WCPS IN 4A FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS

WCPSS gymnastics teams swept the state meet this fall season:

Ashley Hernandez of Fuquay-Varina  won All-Around State Champion with a score of 39.0 for the All-Star Division while Zari Chambers of Fuquay-Varina took second place, and 3rd Place went to Jaidyn Mitchiner of Rolesville.

In the Team Division, the All-Around State Champion was Syniya Thomas of Millbrook, Alayna Weeks of Heritage took 2nd, and Ava-Marie Callahan from Green Level placed 3rd.  

Millbrook captured the Team Championship with an overall score of 115.55
