Green Level Volleyball Stands Behind One of Their Own in Her Leukemia Fight

At a school where green and blue are the two most important colors the Green Level volleyball team made an exception. Reese Roper, a sophomore outside hitter, and one of the youngest players on the varsity roster is fighting leukemia. The team and the Green Level community refused to let her fight alone.

Their support culminated in an orange out called ‘Play For Reese’ night on September 21st, 2023 where the Green Level community also traded their blue and green for orange in support of Roper and her fight. The Gators came back from a 2-0 deficient to beat the Apex Cougars 5-0. Not only did they win on the court but they also won in Leukemia awareness raising over $10,000 for the cause.

Other schools in the area begin chipping in as well to show their support for Roper. Fuquay-Varina Bengals provided the team with orange pads for their net and also gifted them with their very own orange and white volleyball for matches.

The Green Hope Falcons, a rival, even held their own tributes to Roper when Green Level paid them a visit for a match this season. They too traded their Green Hope green and maroon for orange in support.

After beginning the final stages of her treatment and once her doctors said she will remain in remission until 2025 she set her eyes on getting back in action.

On September 28th Roper would take the floor once again for the first time in her sophomore season. She helped the Gators close out a 3-0 victory against the Imps with a match winning kill.

In her debut Roper had the final say. Much like in her fight against leukemia.
