East rolls past West in N.C. Coaches Association East-West All-Star Girls Soccer Game

The East scored twice in the opening half and added three more goals after the break to defeat the West, 5-1, in the N.C. Coaches Association East-West All-Star Girls Soccer Game on Tuesday night at Truist Point in High Point.

Sydney Daughtry (North Johnston) opened the scoring in the seventh minute, finishing a chance set up by Sophia Juhasz (Cardinal Gibbons) to give the East an early advantage.

Juhasz then went from facilitator to scorer, finding the net unassisted in the 18th minute to double the East’s lead. The East carried the 2-0 advantage into halftime after generating eight shots in the opening 40 minutes.

The West cut into the deficit less than six minutes into the second half when Sydney Treanor (Hough) scored off an assist from Alison Thomas (Western Alamance), making it a 2-1 game in the 46th minute.

But the East quickly regained control.

Sadie Barrington (Wake Forest) scored in the 60th minute off an assist from Emily Onesti (Millbrook), then struck again less than eight minutes later following a pass from Raelyn Muniz (White Oak) to push the lead to 4-1.

Abby Champlin (Millbrook) put the finishing touches on the victory with an unassisted goal in the 71st minute.

Barrington led the East with two goals, while Juhasz finished with a goal and an assist. Daughtry and Champlin also scored, with Onesti and Muniz each contributing an assist.

The East controlled much of the attacking play, finishing with a 20-6 advantage in total shots and putting 11 attempts on goal. The East also earned 10 corner kicks compared to eight for the West.

West goalkeeper Madalyn Wright (Mount Tabor) faced steady pressure throughout the night and finished with six saves. East goalkeeper Abbigail Kaestner (Richlands) made one save while allowing only Treanor’s second-half goal.

The West actually held a slight 53-47 advantage in possession, but the East was far more dangerous with the ball, producing 20 shots despite having less of the possession.

The victory came under the direction of East head coach Steven Barbour (Terry Sanford). The West was coached by Camden Brooks (Western Alamance).
