6th Grade Information

The state of North Carolina allows 6th graders to participate in sports, except football.

The State also leaves it up to each local LEA to decide if they will allow 6th graders to participate  in sanctioned sports.  Wake County Public Schools DO NOT allow 6th graders to participate in sanctioned sports.

Some schools have outside group teams.  These are typically run by parents and students from that school can participate, 6-8th grade.  Baseball is a particular group that you will see at the middle school level, because baseball is not a sanctioned sport at the middle school level.  (The school is not involved with the team, it is a separate group)

HOW TO BE READY FOR SPORTS IN 7TH GRADE

  1. Be Academically Eligible

You must receive passing grades in 70% of the classes taken

You must be present 85% of the semester

       2. Be COMPLETELY Registered in Dragonfly

DragonFly is the online system for collecting necessary paperwork to participate.

Physical exam and Medical Eligibility forms must be filled out by a doctor and then uploaded.  The other forms can be filled out online.

ELIGIBILITY IS BASED ON THE GRADES FROM THE PREVIOUS SEMESTER OF THE SPORT YOU ARE TRYING OUT FOR

For example:

  1.  If you want to try out for Football, Girl’s Soccer, Volleyball or Cheer in 7th grade we will look at 2nd semester of 6th grade for grades and attendance
  2. If you are trying out for Basketball in 7th grade, we will look at 2nd semester fo 6th grade for Grades and Attendance.  NOTE – During Basketball season, we go into 2nd semester, so during the season we will have to check 1st semester grades of 7th grade to see if you remain eligible and on the team.
  3. If you are trying out for Track, Softball or Boy’s Soccer, we will look at 7th grade 1st semester grades and attendance.

ATHLETIC BULLETIN BOARD

Located outside of the cafeteria on the way to the gym

This board serves as a daily reminder for students of upcoming deadlines and lists of students who are approved for tryouts.

We want our students to take some ownership of the process and help parents out with information.  We want them to advocate for themselves.
