Winter Sports Tryout Information- Registration open for Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball

Below are a few answers to common eligibility questions:
How is Eligibility Determined? – Eligibility is based on the previous semester. Students must meet academic and attendance standards (see below).
- Fall Sports – 2nd Semester of previous (2024-2025) school year.
- Winter Sports – Begin with 2nd semester of previous year. The semester changes over in January, so eligibility for basketball and cheer will be reevaluated during that time.
- Spring Sports – Based on First Semester of current School year. For more details, check out the WCPSS Athletics Webpage.
How many absences can you have and still be eligible? – Students must have been present for 85% of the days in the previous semester. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THEY ARE EXCUSED OR UNEXCUSED. For most students this means that 12 or 13 absences are the most allowed, depending on what track they were on.
What grades are required to be eligible? – You must pass 70% of classes in the previous semester. For most students this will mean passing 5 out of 6 classes. The most current guidelines are found at https://www.wcpss.net/u/~board/family-resources/post/middle-school-sports 1
