Winter Sports Tryout Information- Registration open for Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball

Fall  tryouts will begin Monday November 17th after school and end at 5:00pm. All rides should be here at 5:00pm. After the first day of tryouts, coaches will communicate with players about remaining tryout days, times, team selection, first practice, and parent meetings.

Students who previously registered for Fall Sports need to simply ensure that they have also selected Winter Sports Tryout Registration as a team and that their physical does not expire prior to tryouts.

Tryouts are open to 7th and 8th graders. In order to tryout, parents must complete the following by November 12th :

Parents must upload all of the required paperwork (primarily pages 6 and 7, the up-to-date physical) to DragonFly: http://dragonflymax.com/forms/5H5V9H

Students who have all their paperwork submitted (either via DragonFly or on paper) and who are eligible will receive Cleared to Tryout emails in their student email beginning November 4th.

Students will also need to complete the Ticket to Play Form by November 12th. This form is only accessible when logged into a Wake County WakeID account.

If you have any questions, please email our Athletic Director, Mr. Robison (srobison@wcpss.net)

Below are a few answers to common eligibility questions:

How is Eligibility Determined? â€“ Eligibility is based on the previous semester.  Students must meet academic and attendance standards (see below).

  • Fall Sports – 2nd Semester of previous (2024-2025) school year.
  • Winter Sports – Begin with 2nd semester of previous year.  The semester changes over in January, so eligibility for basketball and cheer will be reevaluated during that time.
  • Spring Sports – Based on First Semester of current School year. For more details, check out the WCPSS Athletics Webpage.

How many absences can you have and still be eligible? – Students must have been present for 85% of the days in the previous semester.  IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THEY ARE EXCUSED OR UNEXCUSED. For most students this means that 12 or 13 absences are the most allowed, depending on what track they were on.

What grades are required to be eligible? â€“ You must pass 70% of classes in the previous semester. For most students this will mean passing 5 out of 6 classes.  The most current guidelines are found at https://www.wcpss.net/u/~board/family-resources/post/middle-school-sports 1
