Basketball Tryout Information
Basketball tryouts will begin Monday November 18th after school and end at 5:00pm. All rides should be here at 5:00pm. After the first day of tryouts, coaches will communicate with players about remaining tryout days, times, team selection, first practice, and parent meetings.
Important Cheerleading Information! Cheerleading tryouts will only be held in the fall this year. Cheerleaders will remain on the cheer team through the end of Winter Sports in February. There will not be cheer tryouts in November.
Tryouts are open to 7th and 8th graders. In order to tryout, students and parents must complete the following requirements by November 14:
- Students must complete the Ticket To Play form through this link or at the bottom of this page. Students must be logged into their WakeID to complete the form.
- If not already done this year, Parents must upload all of the required paperwork (including an up-to-date physical) to DragonFly: http://dragonflymax.com/forms/5H5V9H You must have all green checks to be eligible. Our athletic director will be updating this regularly beginning in mid-August. If you are missing something, you will receive a notification from them via Dragonfly. Make sure to check your email and Dragonfly regularly account until you get all green checks. If you are unable to complete your forms via DragonFly you may still submit paper forms to Mr. Robison or drop them off in the front office. All students must submit a 2024-2025 Middle School Athletic Participation Form for the 2024-2025 school year. Physicals are good for 395 days. Refer to the Athletics Registration Instructions presentation for help.
Once you have completed both steps, you will receive a Ticket To Play via email from Mr. Robison. If you do not receive a ticket to play email by November 15, it means you did not complete one of the two items above.
If you have any questions, please email our Athletic Director, Mr. Robison (srobison@wcpss.net)
Below are a few answers to common eligibility questions:
How is Eligibility Determined? – Eligibility is based on the previous semester. Students must meet academic and attendance standards (see below). Fall Sports – 2nd Semester of previous school year. Winter Sports – Being with 2nd semester of previous year. The semester changes over in January, so eligibility for basketball and cheer will be reevaluated during that time. Spring Sports – Based on First Semester of current School year. For more details, check out the WCPSS Athletics Webpage.
How many absences can you have and still be eligible? – Students must have been present for 85% of the days in the previous semester. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THEY ARE EXCUSED OR UNEXCUSED. For most students this means that 14 absences are the most allowed.
What grades are required to be eligible? – You must pass 3 out 4 Core Classes in the previous semester. For the winter season, eligibility is checked again at the end of the first semester to ensure continued eligibility. The most current guidelines are found at https://www.wcpss.net/Page/145
