Several Wake County wrestlers had notable performances at the N.C. High School Athletic Association individual wrestling state championships at the Greensboro Coliseum.
One of the biggest highlights for Wake County came from Garner High School, where brother and sister Aidan Gore and Addison Gore won individual titles.

Aidan won the 157-pound boys championship in the 7A classification, beating Grimsley’s Jacob McCord in a 1-0 decision. Addison won the 120-pound girls championship in the 7A classification, pinning Gabriella Gibson of Lake Norman at the 0:51 mark of the championship match.

The Gores were not the only Wake County individual champions, though.

Leesville Road’s Connor Reed captured the 157-pound title in the 8A classification. Reed won a 7-4 decision over Campbell Tufts of Millbrook in the first-place match.

Tobin McNair of Wakefield won the 165-pound championship in the 8A classification with an 11-2 major decision over Thomas Gingerich of Green Level.
Honor Paxton of Middle Creek won the 6A 190-pound weight class. Paxton won a 4-2 decision over Micah Geoghegan of St. Stephens.

Gavin Lopez of Green Hope won the 215-pound weight class in the 8A classification after pinning Avery Small of Mallard Creek at the 3:28 mark of the bout.

Girls Wrestling Champions Crowned
As mentioned, Garner’s Addison Gore won the 120-pound weight class in the 7A classification, recording a fall at the 51-second mark of the championship round against Lake Norman’s Gabriella Gibson, but Gore was not the only girls wrestling champion from Wake County.
Ella Taylor of Cary won the 7A 235-pound weight class due to an injury to Saniya Brown of Overhills in the championship match.
Ascenzi Callahan of Green Level won the 107-pound weight class in the 8A classification. Callahan beat Millbrook’s Sophia Gould in a 19-16 decision in the championship match.
Millbrook’s Lisa-Jean Foley won the 8A 120-pound weight class, pinning Hoke County’s Harley Hardin at the 3:52 mark in the championship.
Apex’s Chanel Perez took home first-place honors in the 8A 165-pound weight class with a pin of Mallard Creek’s SeRina Byrd at the 1:24 mark of the championship match.
