Green Level’s volleyball team won the N.C. High School Athletic Association 8A state championship in dramatic fashion at Reynolds Coliseum.

The Gators fell behind 2-0 in the first two sets, but went on to complete the reverse sweep, beating West Forsyth in five sets, 23-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-9, 15-10.

Sophomore setter Scarlett Taylor was named the Most Valuable Player of the championship. Taylor recorded 35 assists, 14 digs, 11 kills, five aces, and three blocks in the win for Green Level.

Lindley Miller led Green Level in kills with 14. Zaida Bagaasen added eight kills, and Summer Smelko recorded six kills.

Madison Simmons had 21 digs. Hannah Pantiga and Aarushi Shah recorded 18 digs.

Green Level ended the season with a 28-0 record, the only undefeated team in the NCHSAA.

This is the second volleyball state championship in Green Level’s school history. The Gators won the title in 2021 after beating Ardrey Kell in four sets. It is the first undefeated season in school history though.

Green Level’s Aarushi Shah was awarded the NCHSAA Sportsmanship Award prior to the state championship match, along with West Forsyth’s Aurora Rosa.
